Belly-Don't Know
June 2014. My studio group in South London is planning an exhibition as part of it’s remit to provide public visibility of the work produced by it’s artists in exchange for beneficial rates on the rental of the disused cab office we call home.
I have been working with the LEAP motion controller for a few months and I have been reading about the so-called ‘cargo cults’ of the South Pacific Islands. I create this work as a mashup of these ideas: the viewer takes the part of a shaman invoking the spirit of the model airplane visible within the depths of the piece. Making a futile attempt to elicit the return of the planes that bring riches from afar.
